Dynamics 365 Business Central’s next major release is still two months out. One item in it is worth planning for now, not in October.
What is coming in BC29
Business Central 2026 release wave 2, internally BC29, is due in October 2026, with features rolling out gradually through April 2027. Microsoft’s stated focus is autonomous Copilot AI agents, stronger supply chain and inventory management, and expanded B2B order processing through email, Microsoft Teams, Shopify and EDI.
That continues a direction Business Central has been moving in through 2026 already, agents that complete multi-step tasks rather than only suggesting the next one, with governance decisions about which transaction types stay under human approval sitting alongside the capability itself.
The change to flag before October
One change in this release is not a new feature, it is a removal. SOAP web services for Microsoft UI pages are being permanently retired in BC29, completing Business Central’s move to OData v4 and the REST API.
SOAP has been on a slow path out of Business Central for several release cycles. This is the release where that path ends for UI page web services specifically. Any integration, report, or add-on still calling those endpoints will stop working once the retirement lands.
Why this is worth acting on early
Retirements like this rarely surprise anyone who reads the release notes. They surprise the finance or operations team that discovers an integration silently stopped working the week after an update, often weeks after the actual cause. An October deadline in August is not urgent yet, but it is close enough to make the audit worth doing this quarter rather than the week before.
